Austin Wedding Photographer: Monica + Juan| Fiesta Themed Wedding | Zilker Park Clubhouse

Weddings, at their very best, are an expression of the love a couple shares. The entire day, from the tiniest details, to the vows, to the place where the couple ties the knot, even the celebration and dancing into the night – are opportunities for the bride and groom to tell their friends and family how crazy they are about each other. For these two, what started with a friendly message online had blossomed into the romance of their lives, and they’d begun to build the life of their dreams in the colorful city of Austin. The day had come for them to say “I do”, and with an epic burst of Fiesta color, music rolling down from the hilltop overlooking the city as their closest loved ones celebrated into the night, that’s just what they did.

Meet Monica and Juan.

We first met Monica years ago, when she was a bridesmaid in another wedding we photographed. Her sweet personality and amazing smile instantly made her memorable. So when she called to tell me that she had met “the one” and that they’d like us to photograph the wedding,  we were honored and excited to meet Juan. Monica raved about her sweet groom, and when you see them together, you can see that he brings even more of a smile to her face. If even the smallest details in weddings are ways for the couple to express their love, then this wedding was filled with love…and many of the those details and invitations, handcrafted personally by the groom, were a beautiful expression of his love for Monica. From the gorgeous colors, to the sweet vows, and true “fiesta” evening, it was a gorgeous day to celebrate how much Juan and Monica love each other.

The bride started her day at the Milk + Honey spa…

 Story from the Bride:

“Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be…”

“Our story began with the click of a mouse and a few key strokes.  We met online through a dating website called OkCupid.  From our first date, Juan and I have been inseparable.  We are each othe’rs biggest supporter and best partner.  When we hold each other’s hand we know we’re home.  When we envisioned our wedding day we knew that we wanted a relaxed, fun, and casual atmosphere.  Together with my planning skills, Juan’s incredible artistic ability, and our friends’ and family’s exhaustive efforts to execute our vision, we feel that we had a great spring wedding with an Austin vibe.  In the process of planning our wedding day and seeing it come to life, we understand just how much our family and friends love us.  Without their support our wedding day would not have been possible and we are eternally grateful for their help! “
Planning the day and the details:
“…I wanted my bridesmaids to truly feel comfortable in what they wore.  I gave them each a color swatch and just asked them to find a dress that closely matched that color.  Their shoe colors matched the groomsmen’s ties.  The shoes and ties definitely added those bright pops of colors to a beautiful spring day… Juan designed our “papel picado” inspired invitations.  We bought the paper materials from Jerry’s Artarama and created them using the laser machines at MakeATX Workshop.  Each invitation took about 10 minutes to create.  Needless to say, we spent quite a few hours at the workshop.  We ran into a few snags here and there.  We went through many trial invitations. The paper had warped from being left in the car so when the laser cut through the paper, the tiny holes along the edge of our invitation were cut but not popped through all the way.  I sat for hours poking through the holes of the invitations with a sewing needle.  Our wedding invitations were definitely created out of our blood, sweat, and tears but we loved what we created and we wouldn’t change a thing! … Instead of a traditional ring pillow, we bought a vintage book of poetry, and hollowed out the center of the book into a heart shape big enough to hold our wedding rings.  The top page is a poem by Robert Browning, “Rabbi ben Ezra”, with the opening lines “Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be…”.  We feel that these words encompass how we feel about our future as a couple…. Juan sculpted our little “love bird” cake toppers from clay and hand painted the details to look like a bride and groom.  The “groom” love bird is wearing a gray 3-piece suit and purple tie like Juan wore for our wedding, and the “bride” love bird wore a flower in her hair and held a very colorful bouquet. “

Dallas Wedding Photographer: Dara + Bisi | Eastridge Park Christian Church Wedding |

She looked across the open field, and saw him. He stood looking off into the distance, a solitary figure next to a lone tree on the horizon. He was waiting, anxious to see his bride, but knowing that she would come when the time was right. As she made her way towards him, the wind made her veil dance across the sky behind her, and each step closer brought more of a smile to her face. Their story had started with a phone call, and neither of them knew that a year later they would begin to grow into best friends… before they knew it, the two had fallen in love with each other, and they were engaged. Now the day of their wedding had come, and the moment for them to see each other was finally here.

Meet Dara & Bisi.

Dara called his name, a beautiful smile across her face, and he turned to see his lovely bride in her gown for the very first time. The expression on Bisi’s face said it all, and as he took his beaming bride into his arms, they knew they were celebrating the beginning of an incredible life together.

Here’s their beautiful wedding day…

Dara absolutely glowed on her day! Everyone thought so!

A sweet moment with the bride and her flower girl…

Dara shares a really special bond with her college friends, and it’s so sweet to see how they can make her laugh!

Film style black and whites. Love.

The bride and her lovely ladies…

Dara, you’re a beauty!

Matt got some shots of the groom and the guys…

How adorable is this little ring bearer? He melts me!

Dara and Bisi did a first look and it was so romantic! Love the groom’s expression when he saw his beautiful bride!

Bisi was blown away by Dara…

…and even the cars going by saw how excited he was! : )

Love.

The bride took a moment to pray with her bridesmaids before the ceremony.

A beautiful ceremony.

Married! A favorite photo… the excitement just seconds after they tied the knot. : )

Nigerian weddings are amazing. The colors, the joy, the dancing, the love. Just beautiful!

I love this photo of our bride with another one of our previous 2011 brides, Timmie…two beautiful ladies! Love y’all : )

For the second part of the reception, the bride and groom changed into their traditional Nigerian wedding attire. How stunning are they?

The Nigerian money dance…and it was amazing!

We’ll go ahead and end this post with one of the last photos from the night. On their way to their car, the videographer stopped the couple to ask what they were feeling right before they left for the night. I think the joy and pure bliss on their faces speaks louder than words. : ) A gorgeous ending to a beautiful day!

Dara and Bisi,

Thank you for letting us document such a meaningful day in your lives! Your sweet spirits and genuine kindness really bless everyone around you. We hope that every year of your marriage is filled with the same jubilee and excitement as day one was. Blessings to you both, and warm wishes for a wonderful start in your new marriage!

With love,

Matt and Ivy

Story from the couple

How we met:
Dara and Bisi met through the match-making efforts of family members. After Bisi’s initial phone call to Dara, it took an entire year before they would actually meet, because timing is everything! When Dara and Bisi went on their first date in the summer of 2012, little did they know their lives were about to change. Their friendship blossomed and soon it became clear that they were the perfect match made in heaven for each other.

What we envisioned for our wedding:
Bisi and Dara envisioned a wedding filled with their closest family and friends having a good time and most of all a wedding that glorified God in every way– and that is indeed what they were blessed with!

Additional thanks:
Special thanks to bride’s friends Jessica Agwamaro and Tope Oguntona for bride’s hair and make-up
Special thanks to bridesmaid, Janelle Miller, for bride’s something borrowed–the veil
