Weddings, at their very best, are an expression of the love a couple shares. The entire day, from the tiniest details, to the vows, to the place where the couple ties the knot, even the celebration and dancing into the night – are opportunities for the bride and groom to tell their friends and family how crazy they are about each other. For these two, what started with a friendly message online had blossomed into the romance of their lives, and they’d begun to build the life of their dreams in the colorful city of Austin. The day had come for them to say “I do”, and with an epic burst of Fiesta color, music rolling down from the hilltop overlooking the city as their closest loved ones celebrated into the night, that’s just what they did.
Meet Monica and Juan.
We first met Monica years ago, when she was a bridesmaid in another wedding we photographed. Her sweet personality and amazing smile instantly made her memorable. So when she called to tell me that she had met “the one” and that they’d like us to photograph the wedding, we were honored and excited to meet Juan. Monica raved about her sweet groom, and when you see them together, you can see that he brings even more of a smile to her face. If even the smallest details in weddings are ways for the couple to express their love, then this wedding was filled with love…and many of the those details and invitations, handcrafted personally by the groom, were a beautiful expression of his love for Monica. From the gorgeous colors, to the sweet vows, and true “fiesta” evening, it was a gorgeous day to celebrate how much Juan and Monica love each other.
The bride started her day at the Milk + Honey spa…
I love it when a bride is beaming, and Monica may have been the happiest bride of all. Love her smile!
The bride’s mom was there to help her get ready…and her colorful details? How gorgeous is this?
The colors from this wedding were beyond amazing…
Monica and her lovely ladies…
A favorite. Monica, you’re beautiful!
Adore this! The bride sharing a moment with her father…
The groom looked sharp…
The groom’s gifts to his guys…each one with a personal design done by the groom. They were a hit!
Love the colorful paper goods…
How precious is this flower girl?!
A beautiful ceremony…
After the ceremony, the bride and groom went to Zilker Park for a special time of photos, just the two of them. I loved that they set aside a time to just enjoy the first moments of being married. So sweet!
The fiesta details at this wedding were stunning.
I loved the larger framed copy of the wedding invitation made by the groom. It was on display at the wedding, and everyone loved it.
The kids at this wedding were so cute!
The bride and groom entered the reception to a sea of bubbles and well wishes. It was perfect!
The first dance…
…and the father-daughter dance.
We’ll end with two of the most fitting photos of the night. Everyone enjoying themselves and dancing well into the night, and our bride and groom, sharing a sweet kiss over the city of Austin. A perfect ending to a beautiful day.
Monica and Juan,
Thank you for letting us capture your gorgeous wedding! From the first moment y’all welcomed us, and included us in your amazing celebration. Everyone adores you guys, and everyone had a blast at your wedding! Even after we left, friends and family stayed to celebrate and dance with you. We hope that every year you are married is filled with such a fiesta of love and happiness. : ) Best wishes for a beautiful future!

Story from the Bride:
“Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be…”
“Our story began with the click of a mouse and a few key strokes. We met online through a dating website called OkCupid. From our first date, Juan and I have been inseparable. We are each othe’rs biggest supporter and best partner. When we hold each other’s hand we know we’re home. When we envisioned our wedding day we knew that we wanted a relaxed, fun, and casual atmosphere. Together with my planning skills, Juan’s incredible artistic ability, and our friends’ and family’s exhaustive efforts to execute our vision, we feel that we had a great spring wedding with an Austin vibe. In the process of planning our wedding day and seeing it come to life, we understand just how much our family and friends love us. Without their support our wedding day would not have been possible and we are eternally grateful for their help! “
Planning the day and the details:
“…I wanted my bridesmaids to truly feel comfortable in what they wore. I gave them each a color swatch and just asked them to find a dress that closely matched that color. Their shoe colors matched the groomsmen’s ties. The shoes and ties definitely added those bright pops of colors to a beautiful spring day… Juan designed our “papel picado” inspired invitations. We bought the paper materials from Jerry’s Artarama and created them using the laser machines at MakeATX Workshop. Each invitation took about 10 minutes to create. Needless to say, we spent quite a few hours at the workshop. We ran into a few snags here and there. We went through many trial invitations. The paper had warped from being left in the car so when the laser cut through the paper, the tiny holes along the edge of our invitation were cut but not popped through all the way. I sat for hours poking through the holes of the invitations with a sewing needle. Our wedding invitations were definitely created out of our blood, sweat, and tears but we loved what we created and we wouldn’t change a thing! … Instead of a traditional ring pillow, we bought a vintage book of poetry, and hollowed out the center of the book into a heart shape big enough to hold our wedding rings. The top page is a poem by Robert Browning, “Rabbi ben Ezra”, with the opening lines “Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be…”. We feel that these words encompass how we feel about our future as a couple…. Juan sculpted our little “love bird” cake toppers from clay and hand painted the details to look like a bride and groom. The “groom” love bird is wearing a gray 3-piece suit and purple tie like Juan wore for our wedding, and the “bride” love bird wore a flower in her hair and held a very colorful bouquet. “
