Sometimes two lives are being lived so far apart that it seems only a miracle could bring them together. For these two, separated by over a thousand miles and too many states to count, it seemed their paths would never have a chance to cross. But when this kind of miracle needs to happen, it does, and for them that first encounter wouldn’t even be in either of their home towns. As they each traveled to Houston to celebrate the birthday of a mutual friend, they had no idea that they were about to meet each other, and discover the love of their lives…
Meet Jessica and Derrick.
Within just a couple days, they both knew they were meant for each other. As the two went their separate ways, they made sure things didn’t end as suddenly as they had begun. Between plane rides and phone calls, the two continued to fall for each other, and over the year to come Derrick began to form a strong bond with Jessica’s son, Landry. The pieces of the puzzle were all fitting together when Derrick came down to Texas to help Jessica and Landry make the big move to North Carolina, so they could finally be together. Just a few months later, under a sunlit Greensboro sky at the annual NC A&T Aggies’ homecoming celebration, Derrick found himself down on one knee with a question for Jessica. With a crowd of eager bystanders gathering to applaud, Derrick got the answer he’d been dreaming of since that fateful week in Houston. Jessica said yes.
I love all of Jessica’s details. How gorgeous is this?
Stunning florals and veil…
I love this makeup shot.
Special thanks to Steven Coleman – he did a fabulous job on Jessica’s makeup!
Limo rides are awesome, and a bride and bridesmaids who have this much fun on the way to the chapel? I love it! : )
The little ones were adorable…
The bride’s mom was there to help her get ready, and put on her dress…
I love this moment – a tear from mom in the background, and a beautiful bride.
Jessica, you are gorgeous!
Derrick helped Landry get ready, and these are some of my favorite father-son moments of the day!
Love how happy Derrick is! : )
The ceremony took place at Marty Leonard Community Chapel, and it was stunningly beautiful.
How precious are they?!
Jessica’s son escorted her to the altar. It was emotional for the bride and groom and so incredibly sweet.
We’ve seen tons of happy brides and grooms, but these two truly were elated! : ) They danced down the aisle and literally ran out!
A portrait in the chapel.
The family! Love how happy Landry is!
The reception took place in Joe T. Garcia’s and the cupcakes were a hit!
Love the Southwest decor…
The first dance…
The dancing through the night was awesome!
…but this shot is a favorite! I don’t know who’s rockin’ it more – mom, dad, or Landry! : )
The toasts were funny and heartfelt…
Best. Cake. Cutting. Moment. : )
A sweet farewell at the end of a perfect day!
Jessica and Derrick,
It was an honor to be a part of your wedding, and to meet your sweet families and friends. Landry won everyone’s heart, and getting to witness such a happy day for him, and you both, was so special! We wish you all every joy in the future, and in this new chapter together!

The story from the bride:
Charlotte, NC and Arlington,TX… 1050 miles between Derrick and myself! We were two individuals who never knew our hearts would grow in love and our lives would change forever!
Derrick and I met in Houston, TX through a mutual friend who also happens to be one of my maids of honor! We both traveled to visit Lisa for her birthday in April 2010. The first night we met, Derrick paid no attention to me… Lol! He would tell the story a bit differently but, it’s TRUE! By the evening of day two he was flirting with me and made an unexpected appearance to my hotel room, and by day three we were having intimate life conversations, staying up until 6am giggling and chatting, and the rest was history! That night I told my friends and family that he was my future husband and he did the same! Who knew that we were speaking our futures into reality! The next morning we both went back to our own realities, but the story definitely doesn’t stop there!
Over the next year we took turns traveling to see each other, meeting each other’s friends and families, and getting to know each other better. Everyone knew if he didn’t get along with my son Landry he was not going to make the cut, but God had a plan for all of us! On July 25, 2011, Landry and I relocated to Charlotte! Derrick drove 12 of the 16 hours from Texas to North Carolina so he deserves all the kudos :)!!!!
On October 15, 2011, Derrick and I went to North Carolina A&T’s homecoming in Greensboro, NC. This was an annual tradition for Derrick, and I went along for the ride, even though I am Texas Southern University girl! This particular day was a beautiful day. The temperature was in the 70′s, the sun was shining, the grills were going and FUN was in the air!!! I was refilling my beverage under the tent and, as I turned around, I saw Derrick kneeling in front of me. The ground was wet and Derrick was wearing good jeans, so all I was thinking was “Oh no, he’s about to get grass stains on his jeans!” After a moment, I realized there was a crowd gathering around us and Derrick was holding a little unopened eggshell colored box. He then began the beautiful proposal. He told me that he loved me and Landry so much that he wanted us to spend the rest of our lives together. We both started crying and, of course, I said “YES!” (He forgot to give me the ring but he got a reminder from his friend and put the ring on my finger). We then shared a very passionate kiss filled with love and excitement about our future.
Since that day, Derrick and I have been growing stronger and closer together through and in Christ! We were very excited to share this day with all of our friends and family, and are eagerly anticipating a lifetime of happiness together.
