It’s one of our favorite times of the year – workshop time! There’s nothing quite as awesome as getting to spend the day with a group of cool photographers. : ) Whether it’s chatting about gear, talking about the business of photography, or getting out there and taking photos, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day. That’s why we’re so excited that we get to announce the upcoming workshops!
There are two workshops coming up, so no matter what level you’re at, there’s one just right for you:
The Basic Workshop: Sunday, February 24th, 2013 from 2-6 PM (DFW)
If you are just starting out with your first advanced camera, or have had one for a while but still want to learn how to take more creative control over your photography, or if you’re a parent wanting to take great photos of your kiddos, this is the workshop you’ll want to be in. The Basic is great if you’re interested in:
- learning hands-on with your SLR (or if you’re thinking of getting one!)
- taking better photos of your kids
- learning how to use the advanced modes on your camera
- picking the best lenses
- hanging out with fellow photographers!

The Advanced Workshop: Sunday, April 7th, 2013 from 2-7 PM (DFW)
You might already know your way around a camera. You might even be a pro. But you still want to figure out how to give your photos that edge – and you want clients to see it. If you’re looking to take your game up a notch, this is the workshop for you. This is a great workshop to add to your portfolio experience, and will include real couples modeling for you! The Advanced is great if you’re interested in:
- building your portfolio
- learning to working with models and couples
- improving advanced light controls
- learning advanced processing tips
- advancing natural posing skills
- hanging out with fellow photographers!

From the first time we walked into Lindsay and Pete’s stunning Austin affair, we couldn’t wait to share it with everyone! Their wedding was the perfect blend of north-meets-south, their day was bursting with details, and the two of them made just the perfect couple.

Ivy and I talked over a few fun ways of having a drawing for the winner of our first Ivy Weddings “Love Series” giveaway. We decided to let one of our little helpers make the final call. One of the things that we believe is really important is making time to spend with each other, even when life (and business!) is at its busiest. So, we decided a few weeks ago to start a giveaway “love series” that we announced on Facebook for our fans and couples, and we wanted it to be one that focused on fun and romantic dates…. so let us send you on a date! We love when we get surprises in the mail. Sometimes it’s a Thank You note, or a Christmas/New Year’s card, or a special Save the Date with photos from one of our couple’s engagement sessions with us. I adore all the cute designs and colors our brides choose for their Save the Dates. I’ve started putting them all on our fridge, so that it’s one huge colorful mess!!! ; )
I haven’t had a chance to photograph them all, but here are a couple of the latest:

We were contacted by Darlene and Roger’s daughters. They wanted to give their parents a special anniversary gift- a photo session for just the two of them. We knew right off that these must be special parents, so we couldn’t wait to meet them! I got to speak with Darlene before the session and when she told us that they loved going to the vineyards in Irving, it got us thinking…how great would it be to do their photo session in one of their favorite vineyards?! We’re glad we found the perfect place to go to! Delaney Vineyards is a gorgeous and romantic setting that fit perfectly with what Darlene and Roger were celebrating: 25 years of love.
There’s an old English toast that says, “May our love be like good wine, grow stronger as it grows older.” When you’re celebrating 25 years of marriage, you’re celebrating a marriage that is full of love and strength. We could tell our couple was in love when we met them, and they made the camera love them, too! We didn’t need to prompt them much, they had so many natural laughs and shared moments throughout the session. It was one of our favorite photo shoots this year!
Before we ended the shoot, we asked Darlene and Roger for advice for us newlyweds, and they told us…
“Be patient.”
It’ll all work out if you’re patient with each other. Oh, and if you “let her know she’s right.” : )

Roger liked this door because it reminded him of the doors they exited from on their wedding day. That’s enough to make us love the doors, too! : )
We waited a little for the sun to go down some, and we’re glad our couple was so flexible. These sun kissed photos were totally worth the wait!!
Our good looking couple. Rockin’ the individual portraits. We loved the way they looked at each other from off camera while the other was being photographed. They’re clearly hopelessly in love! : )
I love the way Roger looks at Darlene. We think they should come and model for our engaged couples. ; )
