Ringo and Lenny have nothing on a Maine Coon.

We’re always surprised when our clients meet Ringo and Lenny and tell us how small they are: “They’re way smaller than they are in your pictures!” We guess when we post a picture, they look small to us, because we see them everyday.

But our eyes have been opened.

Yesterday, we had a photo shoot at the home of a couple…who happened to own a Maine Coon.  (If you don’t know what a Maine Coon is, you should definitely google that one.) We’d never seen one, and it was beyond impressive, and really really HUGE. It made Ringo and Lenny look like jokes. :/

So, while we were working on other posts, we thought we’d share a quick picture with you- so you can get an idea of the actual size of our pups.

Happy Tuesday!

It’s all about Ringo.

We’ve had the puppies about a month now.

And this past month has taught us a few things.

1. Ringo is a Starr

Yes, they look alike and came from the same litter, but our boys are totally different. Totally. We joke that Ringo has a diva complex (if boy dogs can get those), and wants any and all attention. He’s also kind of snotty. He doesn’t do kisses, or beg for food, or anything else that his brother, Lenny, thinks is awesome. He’s also got major mood swings and can be grouchy quite a bit…

2. Lennon is the pleaser.

Lenny loves loves loves people. Did we say he looooves people? If the boogie man himself came, Lennon would be stoked. Trips to Petco are the coolest things to him. He’ll jump around and kiss anybody who pays any kind of attention to him. He’s also really into food. Food of any kind… and things that aren’t food, too : ) Basically, if it’s low enough or slow enough, he’ll eat it. Ringo thinks this is pretty stupid, which we can tell because of how he looks down at his brother’s scavenging games.

In summary?

  • Ringo is much smarter
  • Lenny is much sweeter
  • Ringo is stubborn
  • Lenny is hungry – always.
  • Ringo barks – a lot.
  • Lenny still hasn’t learned what it’s like to bark.
  • Ringo thinks he weighs 80 lbs. at least. Which is why he takes on dogs 10x’s his size at the dog park. (He doesn’t know he really weighs less than 3 lbs…)

Oh and Ringo loves it when we pull out the camera. Even if he’s sleeping. Lennon on the other hand….well, he keeps right on sleeping : )

¡Viva La Cultura!

I’m Latina, and one thing we love is family.  If you’re Hispanic, you know what I mean. We do family…. on a large scale. : )

Growing up, I always thought that everyone’s Thanksgivings included turkey, rice and beans, and their dad’s Spanish poems. Nowadays, our family’s Thanksgivings are filled with great food (and, as people have married in, we’ve started to include mashed potatoes and ham), lots of kids running everywhere and, of course (no matter how fancy the occasion), lots of disposable plates.

Here’s a recent picture from a day we went over to my brother’s house. My nieces and nephews are used to Tio Matt and Tia Ivy…and our cameras! The girls are in the front and you can see our nephews running in the background-  what can we say? Since they’re young, women are always more into photos than guys.  ; )

We love this picture because there is so much happiness, fun, family and… culture. ¡Viva La Cultura! : )

Happy Tuesday!

We’ve survived week 1.

After a week, we’ve learned that life is completely crazy with twin puppies.

Really.

This past weekend we had to work everyday, so we left them with our parents so they wouldn’t be alone all day. Staying with the in-laws was fun for Ringo and Lenny…they were spoiled and slightly more plump when we picked them up than when we dropped them off (our mom definitely gave in to the puppy dog eyes and was really generous with the snacks…). The twins loved the experience and the new diet! They even behaved decently while being dog sat, which made us proud- but wait- then They. Came. Home.

And (would you believe this!) they got crazy again. Not even two minutes after we walked in the door. We’ve discussed this craziness problem and have come to a conclusion: We think that they know that we’re total rookies at this twin puppy business, so they assume they’re free to team up on anything destructive and get the better of us.

The thing is, we tell people that our little puppies are total tornadoes at home, but (amazingly) as soon as they are in the presence of others, they act like adorable angels. In fact, they kind of just lay there like they’re innocent, cute, and really really…bored. It’s hard to get any kind of emotion out of them when we’re visiting with friends, especially the rowdy-throw-all-good-behavior-to-the-wind emotions they show at home.

Because of this, we want to prove that they are not lazy and actually have some form of energy! Really, we promise, they do play like puppies! So we decided to share a home video with you of the twins being themselves…playful and highly energetic. Note: we censored the video so that it didn’t include the part where they charge into the CD towers, the coffee table, and the ironing board, knocking them over and wrecking havoc on our home.

In order to not embarrass Ringo and Lennon, we kept it to a cute playful video : )

**By the way, the ball in the video is a mini tennis ball, so it’s only the size of a golf ball.**   Oh, and yes, Ringo is a boy wearing a pink collar. Don’t judge. We just haven’t had time to buy him an appropriately “dude” collar. We were happy when the pink collar was given to us for free…so we decided we’d replace it when we had a chance. Then, we kind of got used to it, and Lenny seems to enjoy dragging his brother around from it, plus we kind of like seeing the expressions people give us when they say, “What cute little girls!!!” And we reply, “No, actually,  they’re B-O-Y-S.”

Crazy how some people give you a death stare and deem you an unfit parent over a pink collar… ; )

Matt and Ivy… Plus 2.

When we went “looking” at puppies the other day, one of us didn’t think we’d actually buy a puppy, the other one of us was thinking we’d come home with a puppy…for sure.

Neither one of us was thinking we’d actually come home with TWO puppies! Meet our little babies…the new additions to the Matt and Ivy home.

Introducing….Ringo and Lennon!

Ringo’s on the left…and Lenny’s on the right.

In all their 2 lbs of cuteness. Twin morkies. What can we say? We’re suckers for cuteness…and these guys are CUTE.

Oh, and they may look completely innocent and angelic in this picture but we’ve learned that they can definitely be little Tasmanian devils…!!  Total tornados, even though they are only 5 inches tall. They are training us how to be good parents, while we’re training them how to appreciate their names… like true Beatles fans. : )

The things we want.

Editing in front of a computer for 8 hours a day…it’s SO not my thing.

So while we have over 5,000 pictures to edit (between wedding, engagements, bridals, and family shoots), over the past few days, I just haven’t been able to stop coming back to this one picture:

Ivy Weddings - Doggie 01

A puppy we met on a recent engagement shoot. I think he felt the good vibes coming from our cool couple and just decided to hang out and watch us work. He even took a siesta by our camera bags:

Which all worked out great for my side of an on-going battle in the Matt & Ivy home.

See, I want a puppy. A puppy that looks just like this one! An oh-so-cute puppy I can fit into my purse and carry around with me. I’ve been describing my dream puppy to Matt for quite a while now, which makes it even more unbelievable that this lil guy showed up on our shoot.

My future puppy. It was a sign. : )

So, as I keep working on Matt to give-in to the idea of a puppy….and, as the idea is constantly thrown around in our home, we’ve started seeing cute little doggies ALL over the place! Each one of them having a special affinity to Matt.

Yes. They come right up to him, and look up at him with their beautiful puppy dog eyes. I think that the fact that he is a strong member of the “let’s not get a puppy camp”, is sensed by all the oh-so-cute puppies out there. In its own way, the memo must have gone out, because in many small, concerted efforts they’ve begun to work their magic on my husband.

I’m hoping it won’t stop. At least, not until he brings home a little puppy. : )

Chocolate covered strawberries spell L-O-V-E

chocolate strawberry by ivy weddings

I LOVE my husband.

And I LOVE birthdays. Put those two together, and you’ve created my dream weekend.

Since Matt blogged about it, many of you know that my birthday just passed a couple weekends ago. Woo hoo! I’m a year older, and I’m so happy to be experiencing a whole new life this year. I mean, I’m married now- what a cool development! : )

So, back to the birthday…I feel really blessed to have spent an awesome weekend away with my amazing husband. Matt blew me away for my birthday. From, my favorite fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, (yes, they are a fruit…chocolate and all), to a relaxing spa weekend, he kept me feeling fabulous! Getting tickets to hear my favorite peeps, and having a romantic dinner for two, high up in the sky, made me feel even more fabulous. Gotta love that oh-so-fabulous feeling, right? ; )

It was all a girl’s dream. Oh, and, at the end of the weekend, he also gave me a big, lovely ring…which was totally unexpected, and slightly more delicious than the strawberries. But I am happy to say that ring or no ring, I am still the happiest girl around.

That’s the secret.

People always ask me, “How can you work with your husband, all day, everyday?” “What’s your secret to not going insane on each other?”

Well, it can be hard sometimes, but we love each other. Like crazy. We’re each other’s favorite people : ) Second, we love our job- we get to photograph beautiful people, and have fun while we’re at it! Third, and most of all, being around Matt makes me the happiest girl in the world. : ) : ) : )

Sigh.

That’s probably the biggest secret of all. : )

Thank you for an amazing birthday, babe. I love you!!

The Perfect Birthday Plan…

Tomorrow is Ivy’s birthday.

I’m headed out the door in a few minutes to make sure I’m all done with preparations for the big day.  It’s been a crazy week! Who knew searching for the perfect present and trying to arrange the perfect day for my gorgeous girl could be so challenging?

Sometimes it’s really cool to have a wife who is so easy to please. Ivy is thankful for everything, and never demanding. But that is exactly what makes me want EVEN MORE to make her birthday a mind-blowing, awesome experience.

Without giving away any more details, several ideas have come and gone (or been postponed), and I’m hoping what we go with tomorrow will make my beautiful wife happy, happy, happy. Tickets to her favorite show? That will wait a little longer, since the group won’t be in town until the end of the month. The horse riding adventure had to wait too, but hey, we’re in Texas, so that adventure will be easy to catch later.

And presents? That’s a hard one. I still haven’t figured out what I’m giving her tomorrow for her birthday, and what I’m waiting to give her until our semi-versary is here at the end of July. Needless to say, the present search involved lots and lots of looking, including considering getting Ivy a puppy – some kinda yorkie, shorkie, morkie or the like, so she could have something furry to carry around in her fancy blue purse. The kitten enjoying the ride in this photo had to find a new home (despite the fact that we were the ones who found him wandering in the wild), and finding a reputable breeder of yorkie pups in our area is apparently harder than I expected. That might not be a bad thing, though, since I’m not sure we’re at the puppy-parent stage in our marriage yet… ;)   [This does NOT reflect a blatant fear of being replaced by something adorable, small, and furry.]

Sooo… What did I finally settle on?

Well. Ivy is on this blog too, so I can’t tell.

Gotta run!

-Matt
